Cala Varques
Cala Varques is a stunning cove located on the east coast of Mallorca, known for its natural beauty and crystal-clear waters. It is situated near the town of Porto Cristo, in a relatively remote and preserved area, giving it a tranquil and serene atmosphere with a slightly hippie vibe. Located in the middle of cliffs and pine trees, Cala Varques offers a sense of isolation and natural beauty. To reach the cove, one must walk a path through the forest and descend a series of stone stairs, which can take about 20-30 minutes depending on walking pace. The hike may be somewhat challenging for families with young children or individuals with reduced mobility, but the reward upon reaching the cove is well worth it. While it is a beautiful and peaceful cove, Cala Varques may not always be the most suitable option for families with really young children due to its somewhat challenging access and lack of amenities on the beach. However, for families with older children who enjoy adventure and are willing to hike, Cala Varques can provide a memorable experience. Children can enjoy exploring the cove, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and playing in the sand. Among the terrestrial caves, we find the Pirate's Cave or the Pont Cave. Inside, we find the typical stalactites and stalagmites of sea caves. Among the sea caves in the vicinity, the most spectacular is the Cova des Coloms, which can be accessed by sea. It is an impressive cave, although it is best visited with a specialized guide in active tourism. It's important to note that there are no facilities on the beach, such as restaurants, bathrooms, or lifeguards, so it's necessary to bring everything needed for a day at the beach, including food, drinks, sunscreen, and any necessary beach equipment. Proper footwear for walking on the trail and stairs is also recommended. In Cala Varques, natural shade is limited due to the lack of large trees or nearby structures providing shade. Don't forget to bring your umbrella or a sun shelter for the little ones. In this beautiful secluded cove, it is common to find people practicing nudism.
